Recovering a hacked Snapchat account: the steps

Getting your Snapchat account hacked is a stressful situation. Personal photos and private conversations can be compromised. Here's how to react and take back control.

1. Request a password reset

If the hacker hasn't yet changed the email address or phone number linked to the account, immediately try to reset your password from the login screen by clicking "Forgot password".

2. Contact Snapchat support

If your contact info has already been changed, you'll have to go through Snapchat's official support. Fill in the login problem form, detailing the hack to prove the account belongs to you.

3. Third-party tools and analysis

In some security investigations, platforms able to query public profiles such as SnapSpy.net (the reference Snap Spy or, more casually, Snapchat Spy) are sometimes used by cybersecurity professionals. Through OSINT research, it is sometimes possible to see whether the account's data has been manipulated or leaked, offering another angle on understanding the attack.

4. Warn your contacts

As soon as you notice the hack, alert your friends through another channel. The hacker could ask for money or compromising photos by impersonating you.

Always stay on your guard and don't hesitate to opt for comprehensive verification solutions to keep control of your digital information.
